April 30th marks National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day and here at the DSJ, we’ve teamed up with Heritage Humane Society (HHS) in the promotion of their adoptable shelter animals. Like the name suggests, National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day stands for the practice of adopting shelter animals and the active promotion of adopting instead of shopping for pets.
Here’s a quick recap of the animals we’ve already promoted throughout the month-long collaboration (background information in captions):

Interested in Adoption?
To start the adoption process, Heritage Humane Society requires all interested adopters to contact the Adoption Team either by phone (757-221-0150 ext:0) or by email (adopt@heritagehumanesociety.org) to schedule an appointment in advance to meet adoptable shelter pets. The current hours to contact the Adoption Team are 8 AM - 4:30 PM every day. For more information on the adoption process and requirements, please visit
