Recently, shows have been released in different parts, but why? Maybe it's to create suspense? Maybe it's to ensure the viewers come back? Yet, I feel like it's downright annoying! I can speak for others when I say that I want to be able to binge-watch a show that I waited two years to finally watch. However, some research seems to prove it can be beneficial.

From Stranger Things to Bridgerton to Emily in Paris to Cobra Kai, these and many other shows have all been released in multiple parts. Now, shows have often been split apart in an attempt to establish interest in that show for longer periods of time rather than have “one spike when the season is first released” as reported by GlobalData Thematic Intelligence in Verdict. While people may be upset about the split seasons, the advantage is that people still talk about the shows and anticipate the next part to generate publicity about the show. Releasing shows in parts has helped subscription services like Netflix keep their subscribers from dropping them between seasons. Specifically, according to GlobalData Thematic Intelligence, "[Netflix] gained 9.3 million new users in the first three months of 2024 alone.” Hence, splitting shows may be a successful strategy for people to keep watching the shows.

Overall, there seem to be pros and cons between splitting shows into different parts. I would rather have the whole season available for me to watch; however, I can see how releasing a show in different parts increases viewers' interest and anticipation of what will happen next. Yet, I feel it can break apart the flow of the show as it's hard to always jump back into the show and remember what happened previously. So, what do you all think? Do you all like the idea of having a series release in parts, or do you all resent how you can no longer binge a show all at once?
